2012...

2012 is nearly one month down already and life has brought so many changes!

Of course we have Inez. She is a wonderful, quiet baby. Unfortunately for Mommy, her hardest times are right at bed time. For some reason she doesn't go to sleep very well at this time of day. Daddy isn't much help because she just gets more upset if I am holding her and not Mommy. Any other part of the day she is great for Daddy.

As far as work, it it looking like it is going to be another crazy year. I don't think I will work as many hours as last year, but it will certainly be very fast paced and a lot of work. Maybe every business is like this; I just have to think that if someone were to watch a day of mine, they wouldn't believe how many directions I get pulled in one day, day after day. I am excited to implement new processes and organization to help us (IT) through this craziness. (would be hard to explain on a blog!) We have also FINALLY been approved for a much larger budget this year, which will give us the ability to fix all of our problems. Some day, we will be able to take a vacation and not hear from work, or sleep through a night and not hear from work, and enjoy a weekend and not hear from work, and work at a steady pace without getting the fire hose out.

I have been buying and selling as a new attempt to make some side money. Some of it works out, some doesn't, but I always at least break even. Right now I am buying laptops as cheap as I can find them to resell them for a little profit but a fair price. I just got a really nice laptop in yesterday and it is already sold, with others interested! Last week I bought a really nice drill set at Home Depot and got a second one to sell on ebay. It had some interest but never sold, so I took it back. At least I tried! One of these days I will find my nitch.

...and speaking of laptops, I found out that my particular laptop has three different screens, and I had the lamest one. So I upgraded it today - what a difference! Now it is just lamer, not lamest.

I don't know if you would call it lucky or not so much; the new couch we got had a crooked leg and there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it outside of drilling a new hole for the leg. After a few calls to the reseller, they finally offered us 50% credit if we would keep it...and this was after we bought it for 40% off. So a $1300 (plue $180 shipping) couch cost us around $400! I'll just drill that new hole. :) Being we saved all that money, we are just going to buy another couch!

Got an offer to do some consulting work for Aerocet. It is not going to be a lot of work by the sounds of it, which is perfect for a father of five, but maybe enough to get rid of some of my side-jobs. We'll see if it works out or not, I don't know if they liked my price. Have to make it worth working weekends and nights a long way from home though...

I guess I took the new year's resolution seriously. I made a three step commitment to get my health straightened out being I didn't do so well on my wellness exam. First, I had to stop drinking pop (well, I started this before my exam). It has been two or three months now and I have succeeded - no more pop addiction! In fact, I tried a little bit of Pepsi tonight being someone got us some with a dinner they brought over and it didn't even taste good to me. Step two was going to be a much harder addiction to break - the food addiction. I knew I had a problem, and this is why I failed my health exam. I can go without pop and tv and video games, but NOT food! Going out to eat is my favorite thing to do - Second Avenue, Hydra, Tomato Street, Chinese, pop corn! I started this step by just eating healthier...subway got old fast. Terah got me an oil popper for popcorn and I use 1/4 the amount of butter, so that was another win. I went to some various restuarants looking for healthier food, (Spuds) but the one I found that was amazing was the Pie Hut! Soup, an incredible sandwich, and a piece of pie for $9. Amazing home-cooked food, not deep fried! Then...the BIG test. I went on a strict "diet"; I have never tortured myself like this in my life. I found out just how much I really was addicted to food when I took it away. The first five days was absolute torture - every smell, every sight, every thought...food! After that, the body adjusted and I no longer crave food! Now a small salad or fruit is enough to fill me up for an entire day - seriously! Of course I am not going to do this crazy diet much longer, but I have actually loosed another addiction! Now that I can get through a day without thinking about food, I can easily establish a healthy diet. Terah and I talked about just doing a dinner at lunch and then not eating in the evening - that should keep the pounds off! And after steps one and two, I have lost 15lbs so far. I am still working on step two (a better diet), but it is going very well so far. Step three will also be very hard for me...exercise. I hate exercise. Let's just get rid of the snow so I can work outside. This is what I need to get my heart healthy though, that is very important. My desk job is going to be the end of me.

Those are all the changes I have time to write about tonight...

Your posts always make me giggle. Maybe it's because I know you guys so well and I hear this stuff from Terah's perspective too.

The buying and selling: Talk to Jay. He has a gift for this sort of thing. He's the only guy I know that sells a push mower and winds up with a commercial riding mower and an extra $50 in his pocket less than a week later. Or buys a snowmobile after work one night and sells it for a $700 profit before work the next morning. I am sure he could give you some pointers. Up to this point I have drawn the line when he wants to do it with cars & trucks. It just seems so big...

Yeah, I could pretty much kill you for losing 15 pounds that fast. I once cut out desserts and started running 5 days a week. I did it for 5 weeks straight. I ran two miles a day at first. Then three miles the last two weeks. It was interval running too which supposedly burns more calories and is better for your heart. I lost NOTHING! I didn't lose even half a pound. Guys are so lucky. At least your hard work pays off.

Although, I did go to a specialist and was told that I may be getting too much iodine which can mess with your thyroid. I stopped my supplement and have stopped walking, stopped watching what I eat so much and gone down two pounds since then. so maybe that was my problem.

Good luck anyway. Exercise really does get more enjoyable the more you do it.
